Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers

June 01, 2021

Nan Cao, Postdoc in the group of Peng Wu, was awarded the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers for her studies on Phosphorylation Modifications of SARS-CoV-2 Nucleocapsid Protein

Biological and physiological understanding regarding the many protein–RNA and protein–protein interactions involving SARS-CoV-2 proteins are urgently needed to contribute to the development of new antiviral therapeutics for COVID-19 and other coronavirus diseases. This project aims to study SARS-CoV-2 N protein’s function via phosphorylation in host cells’ translation process and biological roles in cell proliferation and cell cycle, as well as to evaluate the potential strategy to modulate the phosphorylation-mediated N protein function by small molecules.

The Humboldt Research Fellowship addresses postdoctoral researches with above-average qualification from across the globe to come to Germany to work on a research project they have chosen themselves together with a host and collaborative partner. The Foundation grants annually about 600 research fellowships, 25-30 % of the applications.
