
The scientific achievements during the first two instalments of the CGC mirror the high value of the joint initiative for both the research groups and for the industrial partners. A total of 69 unique research projects were run and 193 papers were published in peer-reviewed leading scientific journals. The scientific research performed resulted in the filing of 7 patent applications and the creation of 10 new bilateral projects in collaboration with the industrial partners. Eight of the bilateral projects were also transferred to CGC industrial partner. Furthermore, the CGC Group Leaders raised more than additional 14.1 mio Euros funding from public and private sources for a total of 22 grants.
Very notably Luc Brunsveld, Yaowen Wu, Tom Grossmann competed successfully for the highly recognized and very competitive ERC Starting Grant funding. Moreover, Yaowen Wu was also selected as young Academy Fellow by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. As a testimony to their scientific innovation, track record and authority, 9 CGC Group Leaders were already appointed to Full Professorships in European academic institutions and 1 is Chief Science Officer in a Biomedical Company. The training of over 165 MSc, PhD students and PostDoc researchers is also a significant positive outcome from CGC.
